Castle Drogo – last castle to be built in England – National Trust

Crab Shack – Teignmouth great seafood restaurant overlooking Back Beach

Coastal path – accessible from footpath that goes up next to cottage drive

Community shop – well stocked and reasonably priced 2 mins walk from cottage

Church House Inn – 2 mins walk from cottage – recommend the Proper Job beer – rumoured that Tuesday Singers Night is soon to return

Coleton Fishacre – National Trust property – Art Deco house and gardens

Combe Cellars – pub/restaurant located on River Teign – great place to watch the sunset

Dawlish to Exeter – cycle along beside the river estuary with mainline trains whistling past. You can hire bikes at small bike café at Dawlish Warren

Exmouth – extensive sandy beach. Park in Starcross and catch ferry across to Exmouth

Elephant – fine dining restaurant in Torquay

Fish means Brixham – catch Western Lady ferry (with running commentary) from Torquay marina over to Brixham. Enjoy fish and chips around the harbour (recommend Simply Fish) – Good walk around to Lido and hotel beyond

Greenway House – Agatha Christie’s holiday home near Kingswear – must book tickets and car park National Trust – short ferry hop over to Dittisham or to Dartmouth

Golf – Access golf course in Shaldon

Haldon Forest – walking trails and bike trails

Haytor Rocks –  stroll from visitor centre up to to this iconic Dartmoor landmark

Jurassic Coast – stretches from Exmouth to Studland Bay

Kingswear – end of steam train ride from Paignton – short ferry hop (by car or foot) over to Dartmouth

London Inn Shaldon – ideal for lunch and evening meals opposite the bowling green

Maidencombe nice beach with café Rio – great bacon sandwiches also offer kayak hire

Marks and Spencer – massive store 15 mins drive from cottage on edge of Torquay

Ness Beach in Shaldon – accessed through Smugglers Tunnel

Ode café in Shaldon – great coffee stop – offer paddleboards and tuition on Ness Beach

Promenade along the prom at Teignmouth – beach on one side – mainline trains whistling past on the either side – very exciting

Powderham Castle – plus café, shop and garden centre

Quaywest – Splashdown quaywest waterpark at Goodrington Sands Torquay

Ringmore – along river estuary from Shaldon – location of Telephone box selling 50p books for charity

Shaldon beach – on river estuary unsafe for swimming but great for beach BBQ’s or sundowners.

Catch one of the regular ferries that cross between Shaldon and Teignmouth

Sharpham vineyard just south of Totnes on cycle route.

Ship Inn Teignmouth tables on the Back Beach ideal for watching the sunset over the River Teign

Totnes – interesting market town with individual shops and cafes – Saturday market
